Addiction (Hampshire, Kent)
Don't you get it? I'm a seven day a week kinda guy God knows I've let it, let it get to me like it got to you Don't you get it? It's become like an everyday drink Do I regret it? Everytime I pour my last shot of gin But then I start to stop, I know what I need I'm in the mood in the morning For loving you the way I do I'm in the mood in the evening It's what I need to get me through Get started nice and early. Yes I need you to get back on my feet this time I've lost a piece of my little heart I'm out of control, it won't let me live But I know that I can be stronger than this Addiction of mine is losing it's grip I'm in the mood in the morning For loving you the way I do I'm in the mood in the evening It's what I need to get me through
Feb 2007, starting from an original 4-4 slow ballad, Rich had the verse pretty much there, lyrically and melodically and a now defunct bridge part was complete too. Showing it to Ben and the band they decided to turn it into a swing number and change the feel. Ben came up with the prechorus and the instrumental part too and now all the boys needed was a chorus! No problem right.. Wrong... After fruitlessly searching for a while Rich heard Ben singing a snippet of melody as he ran up the stairs in his house, so Rich took this melody and worked out the chords and then words and melody for the chorus was born! The middle 8 Rich nabbed from another song he was working on. As for the lyrics well, that is a story in itself, Rich and Ben got together for a drunken lyrics session in Victoria and decided the song should be about the choice a man faces between having breakfast or morning sex! This seemed a good idea at the time and many hilarious lyrics were born, however on second thoughts they decided to tone it down a bit and it turned into a song about Addiction. The working title for this song was 'Hello Sailor' after its swing feel. Musically Rich, Matt and Ben recorded the backing track and the song wound its way to completion over the summer of 2008.
