Open up a magazine, its your face I see
Dressed up, made up, a fake reality.
I read about your life, your friends, it's all for show.
What you do, who you see and where you like to go
It's too hard to shut you out, you're always on TV
Turn down, turn off, it's like your watching me
You've always talked about being a famous star
But we both know where you've been
And who you really are... who you really are..
When your day in the sun clouds over
I won't be there to shelter you
But if there's light at the end of the tunnel
Why won't you let me over the wall
That's surrounding you?
That's surrounding you
That's surrounding you
When a person falls from grace they don't usually land gently. Here's a bitter song for you angst ridden people out there.
DeDe
(Bensi, Hampshire, Kent)
Marco and Rich were snowboarding in La Plagne, France, Feb 2002, residing in Chalet Dede when their friend James opened up a magazine and said 'Open up a magazine...' and Rich suggested they try and write a song around that...
So for the next few hours Jim, Rich, Marco and another friend Orb worked on lyrics. Lena contibuted parts of the second verse.
The main verse riff B, Bm7, E and the rockier A to F# was written there and then. The chorus Rich had for another song but it got used here. This was a real team effort and the song was finished the next day.
Rich showed it to Ben when they got back and they polished up the arrangement together, in particular adding a 2/4 bar of F# and a C# to lead into the chorus. Nice!
You're not a headline on the frontpage anymore
Shut out, burned out, media whore
Early morning slots are all that you can get
If they don't see your face they'll soon forget
Who you really are...
When your day in the sun clouds over
I won't be there to shelter you
But if there's light at the end of the tunnel
Why won't you let me over the wall
That's surrounding you?
Matt's drums are great on this. He came up with his bits almost straight away.
Mortimer's new direction is evident in this song.
