He's a fuzzy felt man doing what he can trying hard to understand the next door girl living in his world of flat backgrounds and no commotion he's the kinda guy that people pass by when you speak to him its an education He's there on his own, never in the zone all he needs is some manipulation. People change him wherever he goes waking him up with their silly rules You know that he's just a fuzzy felt man He's doin (just) whatever he can He's just a fuzzy felt man, the two dimensional man the two dimensional man. Show him what to do its entirely up to you No need to give him any justification People put him down but his feet say on the ground And he makes the best of every situation. People change him whenever they can waking him up with their silly rules Plucking Mr Fuzzy Felt from the air Where did he come from? You can sit outside yourself All you need is some imagination..
Fuzzy Felt Man (Hampshire/Kent)
Do you know anyone who is a bit two dimensional? Anyone whos a bit fuzzy around the edges? So do we! Here's a song about this zany person!
Written by Ben with Rich in the room while Rich was working on his best man's speech. The 'people change him' was a Ben bit that came later and Rich tagged on the silly rules and the sus4 chord. Marco, Jon and Matt excelled themselves with their funky parts. Marco's brother Danny visited from NYC and composed the cello parts in a session in the clockyards. (Marco thinks these cello bits sound good when played as a whacky organ sound at our gigs...ahem) Originally Rich was out thinking about cool names for an album and came up with Fuzzy Felt, this triggered off Ben who wrote the first verse that went. 'He's a fuzzy felt man doing what he can trying hard to understand the fuzzy felt girl living in her world of flat backgrounds and two dimensions'. This set them off on writing lots of crazy lyrics and even roped in Sarah to help out. It was recorded over a period of about two months. One indrustrious session saw Ben lay down the rhythm guitar & lead vocal and Rich the bass. The fuzzy sound comes from overloading the MD4 input. A bit of a happy accident as it happens. The song is very Beatlesesque by our own admission but hey if you're going to be inspired be inspired by the best!
