Girl (Hampshire/Kent)

Insert title here...

Girl I think I like you Girl you're something I'm into Fine if you're gonna ignore me In time you'll come to adore me Girl you just get better Girl you're made to measure Decline my undivided attention Don't mind my curvaceous fixation Accept my invitation Anytime's alright Give a little indication coz Something tells me You're my kind of Girl you keep me guessing but Girl what you're forgetting is I can't handle rejection A casual move in your direction There's no time for us to get serious Get it together at yours or mine Girl I'm caught in your headlights Girl you give me the green light Too bad I'm under the table Girl I don't think I'm able
Rich was inspired by the Monkees song "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" and began writing this cheeky 60s tribute. It's a bit of musical fluff really boy meets girl kind of stuff, but with a twist at the end! He presented a basic verse structure to Ben at a songwriting session in Rickmansworth and they set about trying to find a chorus. It was slow going until Ben hit a Edim chord followed by a Gmaj. Suddenly the boys were inspired and the remainder of the chorus came as a joint effort in a matter of minutes. The middle 8 came later and was mostly a Rich bit. It was originally conceived with multi layered vocal harmony parts, but these were later replaced by a Jazz-style guitar solo. Listen out for the Mellotron, the Guiro and somebody saying "Ah" just before the solo starts. Most of the lyrics were written during a trip to NY to see Brian Wilson in concert. Our favourite lyric (perhaps of any of our songs!) has to be 'curvaceous fixation' which was written on the plane on the way over. The final verse, including the twist of this otherwise simple love song, was written on the long taxi drive in rush hour traffic from Battery Park to JFK. This eventful journey was rounded off when our driver crashed into the car in front. D'oh! One thing we're not giving away here is....... Who is the girl?
