Inclination (Hampshire, Kent, Lord)
If I had to be misguided, would you have the time to show me around. And if I come across sarcastic, when I'm standing in the cold all by myself Spare me the details 'cause I admit that you had almost found me out If I seem to be distracted, when you didn't look through me and heard me out. And if you think Im sanctimonious, take your point of view and take it somewhere else Don't need a reason for treading water as I cauterise again (You should) make the best of every situation (you will let me in) If you gotta go slow down stop playing around (you will let me out) Got no time nor the inclination (won't you let me in) When you've only got once chance to make it if you take it now When you've seen your own reflection staring back at you not what I see
A soaring rocker with the mortimer touch
This song is an old rocker that Jon had written a few years back. We decided to resurrect it last summer and set about taking it apart! There was no chorus so Ben and Rich spent a sunny day in Rich's Sunbeam Alpine and found a secluded spot (ooer) next to a river and merged their two ideas together. Ben with the main melody and Rich with the counter one. Marco had also been working on a few chorus ideas and this was merged in during a session at his house in Balham. In fact their are many demos of this song in various stages throughout the process.
And if you think Im sanctimonious, take your point of view and take it somewhere else (You should) make the best of every situation (you will let me in) If you gotta go slow down stop playing around (you will let me out) Got no time nor the inclination (won't you let me in) When you've only got once chance to make it if you take it now
The words were taken from various sources including an NTL phone bill! As well as from Jon's original idea. There was a session at Marco's and at the river to finalise the words. The song was played live before it was recorded (12bar club 27.7.02 was the first time we'd all played it together!) The recording was our first foray into 24bit/96Khz sound and after Ben and Matt had recorded the track the boys set to work with their various bits. A rocker from the Lord himself.
