Wonderland (Hampshire, Kent)
You're Mother Nature's loaded gun. With a body clock that counts down to none Should I stay with you now that I'm knocked to the floor? Do I need you? Do I need you anymore? Face to face can't cross your thin white line No shortcut'll get you round this time Could I stay with you when it feels like we're at war? Do you need me? Do you need me anymore? But no one told me... Wonderland was in my hands don't let me throw it all away. Don't let Wonderland slip by me and never come around again. You're mother nature's loaded gun. Tick tock body clock counts down to none. I should have kept away from you when you said to me before. I can't stand you. Don't understand you anymore. Like a bolt from the blue you spit out your news. I know your game, but I was too. The timing's bad, no it wasn't planned. But we could be happy in Wonderland.
Could what you thought was the buggest mistake in your life turn out to be the best thing instead?
This song was started in September 2006 when Rich and Ben noticed how lazy Ziggy was and started writing a joke song called "Lazy Cat". The original melody and chords from this session ended up becoming the middle 8 structure of Wonderland. At about the same time Rich had been working on two repeating chords and some words that went: "You'll find me in the morning sun". When he played this to Ben in October 2006, Ben was instantly inspired and started working on a slinky new bit to follow Rich's verse. They worked on this bit together, added the "I can't stand you" lyrics and a bridge was born. They played the new song to the band, by which time Rich had come up with a chorus which had original lyrics of "Ramadan is here again, I'd love to see you in the nude"... which they sensibly decide to change later! Rich and Ben then worked on a transition out of the chorus that went F#m to Eb, though this was later dropped and used for the outro but with a G#m9 tagged on the end by Marco. The solo section was worked on by the whole band and the final arrangement and all the lyrics were completed by Ben and Rich. The backing track was recorded on 18th June 2007 but because they decided to concentrate on Big Beautiful Lady the song wasn't finished until one year later on 7th June 2008.
